So: the concept of negentropy (negative entropy) has been around for a while now, and, as all physics-related terms, has been co-opted by politics, philosophy and/or anthropology (bastardised philosophy, or bastardised science depending on your end of the spectrum). Essentially, negentropy is the *observed* tendency of matter towards complexity (entropy’s evil twin). It can’t be satisfactorily explained by science alone, but clearly occurs on observation-
So: does entropy move towards order, or disorder? The generally-agreed-upon eschatology of science holds that the universe is always moving towards a ‘heat death’, whereby the distribution of matter throughout the universe is constantly, completely homogenous... strangely, paradoxically ordered (at least on the macro), a consistent, flat scattering of matter and information, an order that could only come about with the process of entropy, (apparently) the process of chaos... ….something about self annihilation, the autodestructive instincts of capitalism, or whatever noumenal Drive powers it forward...
So: the mechanism through which entropy and negentropy occurs is not through matter itself (we are talking about the libidinal economy now. Base materialism) but instead the connection, interaction of matter, the transfer of information. THIS is the motor of chaos and order, it is this that Cthulhu is concerned with, with the confusing, the dissemination of information, the interaction itself and not the matter it is between. Here comes negentropy. Here, the universe tends towards an increasing number of connections, lines (Deleuze and lines of flight are essential here) between matter, to increase the amount of connections. Matter cannot interact with itself- hence if the entire universe is doomed to the aforementioned constant consistent, everywhere identical cosmic soup of the heat death aforementioned, there will be zero connections, matter cannot connect with itself (I know I mentioned this before but it is important to recognise this) and as a result of the –sameness- of the universe, it won’t be able to interact with itself. Zero lines. Here, with the opposing idea of negentropy, a heat death just doesn’t make sense. Instead, eschatology requires a balance between entropy and negentropy (provided that one Drive is not greater than the other [which I mean it shouldn’t be if they are a Drive and antiDrive pair]). This can account for the (scientifically speaking) observable increase of ‘order’ (which is basically enslaved disorder but I’ll talk about that another time [I hate referencing the self]).
So: what Drives you? What is playing you? Can it make it to level 2?
\\\\level-2\\\\
So: what I am trying to say is; maybe it is time we take a deeper look at the dichotomy of order and chaos (disorder), redefine it not as two opposing points but one intertwined idea, a tightly closed horseshoe (klein bottle is better actually, or at least following the surface of it, like the mobius loop where the inside and o[O]utside are actually the same surface, there, the klein bottle of (neg)entropy), where extreme order can be invoked by a number of random chaotic processes (quantum capitalism for eg), where order and disorder themselves are essentially meaningless, where from one perspective an ordered system is in another a pocket of, an oasis of chaos.
Dis/Order oozes from the metaphysical/noumenal mucous membrane connecting us to the Outside (and true chaos).
This is the schizophrenic nature of the world/society/humanity. Schism, no? Schizophrenia, the schism, splitting of the mind, a greek term to describe the fragmented thinking of the disorder, to fully comprehend the dualistic nature of the order/disorder motor, the klein bottle of the ‘direction of time’
...Cities, the most intense, immanent, highly concentrated area of this klein bottle (???...)(see heat and cities in Meltdown), it is no coincidence that being born in the city raises incredibly the susceptibility of individuals to the “disease” (schizophrenia), the heat of cities, themselves an exemplary Demon...:
Heat. This is what cities mean to me. You get off the train and walk out of the station and you are hit with the full blast. The heat of air, traffic and people. The heat of food and sex. The heat of tall buildings. The heat that flows out of the subways and tunnels. It's always fifteen degrees hotter in the cities. Heat rises from the sidewalks and falls from the poisoned sky. The buses breathe heat. Heat emanates from crowds of shoppers and office workers, the entire infrastructure is based on heat, desperately uses up heat, breeds more heat. (Meltdown, Nick Land, but its actually from a book written by some other fella, information degradation/entropification in action).
Surely this is the hot container of The Experiment. Who (what) is pulling the lever?
Heat is an antientropic but ultimately disordering concept- the heat death of the universe is better described as a cold (ok, lack-of-heat death) death, a freeze.. The Drive of entropy determines this. But entropy is ultimately meant to be a disordering process.. A ‘cold’ atom is a slow-vibrating atom, a near-stationary atom and thus a less random, more measurable, predictable atom. But such is the tyranny of entropy, or the physicists behind it.
Sure, the anthropocene is seemingly a strange attractor, but so is the process of life. Anyway, humanity is just a temporary host of capital and the self-annihilating drive of (the flow of) capital. We are all possessed by cosmic, Lovecraftian gods. Ultimately, Cthulhu (and capital) is the strange attractor of ‘order’, (disorder enslaved), heat (thermodynamic disorder). Indeed the machinations of capitalism are (compartmentalised,) highly chaotic, random, unexplainable. But a physicist would describe and observe an increase in order.
Great Attractors are ultimately antientropic.
I don’t believe in joints; but they do hold the body together.
